- About the Project:
- Westport Winery commissioned HCR to create a sculpture that would represent one of their award winning wines. HCR chose a full bodied red named "Boom Runner." HCR tackled the entire project, from design to installation and it was a wonderful experience!
- Update: On April 27, 2010 Westport Winery was featured on Evening Magazine, and the Boom Runner made it on TV!

Ideation sketches
Creation of the boom runner from individual pieces of scrap steel
The collection of sticks represents a river of flowing log booms. All of the wood is locally collected driftwood that has been dried and sealed. Holding the driftwood together is a vine made from 1/2" and 3/8" round steel. (the vine element helps to tie the piece into the winery and vineyard theme.) Each driftwood piece is attached into the vine with 1/4" round steel stems that are drilled into the wood and welded to the main vine structure. The whole structure is welded to a 3/8" steel plate which provides a solid foundation.
